Did you hear what happened in Philly? I'm a long ways from Philadelphia, but that doesn't mean much these days. Philly Bloggers are being told to pay for a business license!
Read about it here: Philly Requiring Bloggers to Pay $300 For Business License
Good thing I never did figure out how to monetize my blog! Besides, I didn't figure I would ever make much from putting Google ads on my blog, maybe a few pennies per year. Hardly worth it for me to have it full of advertisements. I prefer my blog to be ad-free.
But, I was thinking of montezing my other two blogs. I write one about all the fun places I take the kids, so it is a tourist review type of blog. And the other one is product reviews. I have not been writing much lately on any of my blogs, but I'm always thinking of great things to blog about. I keep thinking that someday I'll get caught up and I'll put Google ads on my review blogs.
Hmmm, maybe I won't! My blogs are certainly not a business! I'm not out to get "customers". Should be interesting to see where this story goes. My guess is it will be a nice liner for a bird cage.

This Stay-At-Home-Mom doesn't know how to stay home
Know why I don't blog as much lately? Because the weather is too beautiful to stay in! It's not too cool, not too hot. I love May and June in California!
We've been getting out and about quite a bit. My neighbors even commented that I take the kids out almost every day. We're like Phineas and Ferb, "Hey, whatcha wanna do today?" Then we do it.
I started a new blog to write about all the places we go and just give a quick run down of parks and fun places for kids in the area. I have about 15 blog posts in "draft mode" for that blog! We just go and go and go! Quite a few of the moms in the mommy group that I belong to ask me about parks and places like that, so I decided to write a blog and refer them there. Now I just have to slow down long enough to write a full post someday!
When we are home, we are potty training, babysitting, visiting and helping my pregnant daughter and her cats, trying to sew baby things, swimming in the plastic wading pool, and the normal every day stuff like cleaning, shopping, doing laundry. Ho hum.
It'll be too hot to step foot outside soon enough and then I'll plant the kids in front of the tv all day long and catch up on my blogs.

The Blog Post that isn't
I have a lot to blog about! But, time is fleeting so I'm not going to - not just yet. I'm just letting you all know that it's coming, just as soon as I have my head together enough to spit out all of my stories.
I'll update you on the "Mama Wants Her Body Back" diet. So far, it's not getting stellar reviews from me, but maybe I'll adjust.
I'm sewing Snow White dresses - I'll tell you all about my adventures with the serger. Um, I'm learning!
Tomorrow we are going to Disneyland! Yay! And the weather will be cooler. It was 109 two days last week, over 100 every day. Tomorrow its only supposed to be 85 for the high and this morning the cool air feels so wonderful! Only 78 outside right now.
Libby's first birthday is tomorrow, the 30th. We're having her party (just us) on Friday.
My dog is almost out of thyroid pills, remind me to call the vet would ya?
Gracie has been saying some really funny things lately. The kind of things that make you stop and laugh and appreciate the innocence and wonder of a child. She's just a hoot!
I went to the DMV and spent an afternoon. Oh Lordy, have I got another DMV adventure to tell you about! That place is a looney bin for sure!
My husband remembered his keys yesterday and today! The signs are still up and they are working! Aren't I a good wife?
I've had some cell phone issues. I ended up getting a new phone, but its the same piece of crap as the old one. Can't wait for my contract to be up so I can upgrade my hardware. Next time, I'm getting the top of the line!
Spent an afternoon with Lexie, no rabbit or extra critters came with her this time. But she did dance in Gracie's ballet class. Can't wait to upload my pictures!
I planned and canceled a trip to Napa.
See, I have lots to tell you, but I don't have much extra time to sort it all out and type it up. Just a teaser for today! Now it's back to my sewing room to finish those dresses for tomorrow! I'm excited that the girls will look so cute at Disneyland!

Hey, Mr. Forgetful, Got Keys?
My husband, affectionately known as "Mr. Forgetful", has a few essentials that he cannot live without during his workday: Classroom keys, Cell Phone, and Bluetooth. On Thursdays he also needs his bag of college teaching materials. Most mornings when he is ready to leave, car or motorcycle keys in hand, we have the same discussion:
Him: What am I forgetting?
Me: Keys, Phone, Bluetooth?
Him: (pats himself in all the right places) Yup, Yup, Yup
Me: Bye!
Him: Bye!
Some mornings, we don't go through the list. Like today for instance...
He apparently remembered his cell phone because he called and said "*$#!@(% I =$%^#!@? forgot my %&(@#$$#! keys! #@!$%&!)*!" I did my wifely duty and sympathized, "aww". I held in the giggles.
And then, I got a bright idea! I'll help the guy out! After all, he's forgotten his keys countless times this school year already, and school has been in session for what - three weeks? Not to mention last week when he forgot his bag and I drove the 45 miles to his school to give it to him.

While I was making the "Got Keys?" signs, I found his bluetooth sitting right there by the computer. Hahahaha!
*Update* I hung a total of six signs and I have one ready to stick in his truck and one to rest on his motorcycle. I also left the word document up on his computer screen (I had to use his because one of the runts unplugged my printer and now it's not recognizing the network).
He came home from work and noticed one of the signs on his way in, he walked all the way in to get his hugs from the kids, then he turned around to go back out to his "Man Room" and that's when he saw the rest of them! He smirked. He gave me that look that says, "Smarty Pants". I said "I'm helping! Isn't that why you called me?" He said, "Thanks, Honey".
He hasn't taken down any of his signs. I think that's so funny! He's not one bit angry or insulted, he's laughing at my helpful antics - after all, he was just asking for it!!! Hahaha!

Cleaning and clearing
"Gifts are not given in with the expectation that they will hence forth be forever strapped to your person and household and hauled around like a ball and chain. Gifts are about love and that's what we are supposed to carry." ~ Charity Beasley, aka Vegbee
I was cruising through random blogs, and I found this quote. I love it! After reading and contemplating that thought, I am ready to go through the stack of rubbermaid totes in the garage marked "misc stuff".
In recent years, we've seen the passing of several of our elder relatives. And the one thing they all leave behind: A house full of stuff. Gosh, if I have this much stuff now, I'll be leaving behind hoards of junk for my family to sort through! I'm only in my 40s, another 50 or 60 years of birthdays, mother's days, Christmases, Valentine Days, etc. and I'll be so buried in stuff that I wont' be able to move.
But it is so hard to give away gifts! If someone gives me a gift, I keep it! I just hate taking gifts back to the store too. I will say, gifts are a hard thing to part with since they were Gifts! I also have a hard time giving away baby things. And old toys. And anything the kids or I made. And Halloween costumes. Sigh. I'm a packrat!
I had best take advantage of my sudden urge to purge before the feeling escapes me. I'm off to fill up donation bags for the Salvation Army! That's better than throwing anything away, I can't go that far! At least if I'm not going to keep it, someone else might find a use for it and my stuff will live on.

To Vacation, or not to vacation.. hmmm...
We were so busy in May and June, that the laziness of July has been extra sweet!
Our original plan, as usual, was to drive to my husband's hometown in South Dakota to attend a family reunion, stop by my Grandma's house in Wyoming for a bit and then drive home. It's 1685 miles one way, then back again. It's a long drive! And we do it every year with the whole family and the dog.
But on the heels of two graduations, a wedding, moving the big girls out, painting and reorganizing the house, teething, and all that went with the excitement of June... we decided not to go on vacation at the end of July. It's just too much work!
But, wait. Did we just cancel our vacation to go back and see family and friends because we are too lazy? By golly, we did. That's just LAZY!
After a few relaxing weeks, we decided we've recovered enough to go ahead and treat ourselves to a much deserved fun vacation after all. We will trek across the desert and over the mountains and across the plains! Crammed in our mini-van for 30 hours at a time! We will pack it up and move it out! North-Eastern Bound!!!
It is a lot of work, but it's always fun and we always have a great time. We don't get much sleep for a week, but sleep is over rated anyway.
The vacation is back on the calendar! Look out, inlaws and outlaws, here we come!

What Holiday?
My sister called me today and it went something sorta like this:
...yadda yadda yadda...
Bonnie: I don't have to work tomorrow.
Me: Why?
Bonnie: Because its a holiday, well Saturday is, but you know how it works.
Me: Holiday?
Bonnie: uh huh
Me: What Holiday?
really, I had no clue.
Bonnie: [laughing] The 4th of July!
Me: When?
Bonnie: On July 4th.
Me: Why do you have tomorrow off then?
Bonnie: Mary, Oh My God! Tomorrow is Friday July 3rd!
Me: No way!
complete shock!
Bonnie: Yes
Me: It's July already?
Bonnie: Has been for two whole days.
Me: And what day is it?
Bonnie: Saturday
Me: Today?
Bonnie: [not sure whether to laugh or cry at this point] No, Saturday. Today is Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday. Then it'll be Saturday July 4th. The 4th of July.
Me: Oh. Oh, Wow.
I really didn't know this. I had no idea today was Thursday already.
Me: Where does the time go?
Bonnie: You need vitamins.
So, What are my plans to celebrate the 4th? I am just hoping I notice the 4th! Bonnie, call and remind me, Ok?

Invasion!
The invasion of family and friends begins today! We're expecting about 30 - 50 people (ok, I know that's a pretty big window, but I haven't had much coffee yet. Who can count before the caffeine kicks in?). With a graduation and a wedding in the next couple of weeks, this place will busier than LAX.
I've been busy whipping this house into shape. This poor house has been sadly neglected while I was in college and tending to the baby and trying to stay awake. I had a lady come over and rip down the wallpaper and scrape my walls clean quite a while ago; my intentions were to have the walls and nice and pretty back in March or April. Well.... this happened, that happened, this came up, that came up, next thing you know, it's JUNE!
So... I'll show you what I've been doing in between diaper changes these past few days. Before you see that, you have to see what I was getting rid of. I don't really have a good picture of the ugly wallpaper since I avoided taking pictures of it. It looked like something you'd find in an old run down trailer house.
Last November, Thanksgiving actually:

My Blog Stalker - Gotcha!
Ever since I added that Feedjit thing in the margin of my blog, I've been very intrigued by who is reading my blog. Who is stopping by? Where do they come from? Where do they go? Very cool little gadget.
I discovered that one post in particular was drawing some hits based on searches for porn. Ewww. I also found that my blog pops up a lot for people looking to find out why their husbands don't understand them. Sorry, can't help you on that. Other popular searches that bring people to my blog are Pregzilla, momathon, birth story, Sandra Dallas, and Libby-cakes. Hmmm. I find these to be some interesting searches.
I recently noticed that someone from my town was visiting my blog. Visiting often. Very often. Very Very Very Often. Ok, it's gone from "oh cool, someone I know found my blog" to "hmm, someone in town is sure interested in my blog, wonder who it is" to "who is this freak who is stalking my blog? You? Her? Her? Him? Everyone?". I began to kind of freak out a little. Someone was visiting too often!
After nearly a week of being stalked, I finally figured it out. It's ME!

All in a Day....
Raising princesses is an adventure in chaos.....
This is how Katie tries to enjoy her breakfast. No wonder she's excited to move out soon! She just wants a meal!

Chores? But, I'm only "Fee Yeez Owd". Just when she thought having her own shovel was gonna be so fun! She learns how to clean up after her dog. Hmmm, the parents tricked her again!

Whose 40th Birthday? Why, is that Princess Gracie front and center soaking in the birthday glory? Shock and Awe! It is!!!

Here's a poor capture of a great moment! Even though its blurry, I love the moment!

Scum Magnet
Ever wonder who might accidentally stumble upon your blog? I never did, then I added the Feedjit thing in the margin. Scary!
Perverts find my blog! They are looking for naughty pictures and such, and they find me? I have nothing to offer the pervs of the world, nada, zip, zilch!
I had to remove a post from July 08 in which I compared my pregnant self to a... hmmm... how do I say this without typing in the word that porn pervs search for... a high school girl who wears short skirts and cheers on the team. Siss Boom Bah! Rah Rah Rah!
I was commenting on my new swim dress. It was cute! Good thing I never did post a photo. Ay Ay Ay!
Since I removed that post, the perverts have not been attracted to Momathon. Yay! Stay Away, Scumballs!

My Husband doesn't understand me
See that look on his face? There he is, confused and bewildered. We went to Lowe's to pick up a few tiles and things - see the stack of tile in the trunk by his knee? So, he opens the trunk of my van to put the tile in and he finds.... three strollers, a potty chair and a 40lb bag of dog food.
What is there to be confused about?
The dog food: We needed more and I bought a bag, but when I came home I had to bring in the two little girls, diaper bag, purse, groceries... and then my hands were full and I left the super heavy bag of dog food in the van for him to go out and get it. Then I forgot to tell him.
The potty chair: When you gotta go - you gotta go!
Three strollers: Duh. Might need this one or that one or the other one! One is a double, one is a full size single and the other one is the little umbrella. I don't like to have the wrong stroller with me. I left one at home and one at the babysitter's house, it's not like I'm taking them all with me everywhere I go. Just a trunkload.
What is there to be confused about? Men!

The Daily Damage and other doo-dads
The Daily Damage of attending college, not counting tuition or books or overdue library fines, just attending is something I wish I didn't figure out. I shouldn't have done the math. But since I did, here's the breakdown: Jess, hold onto your hat, maybe you should sit down, this is more than you spend in a month to restock your entire house...
$35 for Gracie's child care
$35 for Libby's child care
$10 approximate cost of gas for the 45 mile trip to school and back
$10 for the second trip on Tuesdays because I go back and forth twice that day
$7 to park in an itty bitty space half a mile from my classroom
$5 for lunch. If I had time and another hand, I would pack my own. I try to.
This adds up to $90 - $100 just for me to show up at college! And I am getting a great deal on child care. My sitters are doing us huge favors by charging us so little!
And other tidbits, updates, and random thoughts:
College sucks. I have more classes than I have time for. The homework is impossible when I have a toddler who wants to color in my book too! And I can't write papers when I am constantly watching the kids with one eye and type a bit with only half (or less) on the laptop. Sure, I can type out random thoughts in my blog, but here I can also let my spelling and grammar slide and if it doesn't make sense, ah, that's fine too.
I won a Target gift card by commenting on Duck Duck Cow's blog. She was celebrating her blog's birthday. Thanks, Jessica! I think that's pretty nice that she remembers and celebrates her blog's birthday, shoot, I barely celebrated my oldest child's birthday! In fact all I did was say "Happy Birthday" and handed her some cash. Then she went to Disneyland with her best friend. I did bake some butterfly shaped cupcakes. I have a lot to learn about decorating though.

We're having problems with Monsters. Those darn ugly monsters are scaring Gracie at night! Daddy has been calling the Monsters on his phone and telling them they cannot come over. Then he talks to them for a bit asks them if they took a bath and combed their fur because they are so cute when they are clean and fluffy. Asks them if they like to play ball. He's so funny! But it is really helping with Gracie's fear on Monsters. She says "Sponsters" cuz she is cute like that!
My sister wrote in her blog about how she didn't have her camera when she needed it. Boy, I know how that goes! Libby has been toying with me. She learned how to roll over but every time I try to catch her act with my camera, she won't do it. As soon as I put it away, over she goes! Arg! Here she is teasing me:

It is sure a good thing you folks only visit with me online. Really! Days like today I am thankful that I'm a hermit and don't get out much socially. You see, yesterday I couldn't decide if I wanted chili or bean and ham soup. I had both. Today we went out for Mexican. Let's just leave it at that.
Katie's boyfriend is almost done with boot camp! She's flying to Illinois to see him graduate next week! According to her it was a long wait for the end of boot camp, but I think it feels like he just left not that long ago. Perspectives.... interesting. He is doing really well and he earned two phone calls so far, one he used to call his parents (only after failing to get ahold of Katie), and the other phone call he got to call Katie. They've been writing letters back and forth and his are full of news about how he's doing well. He did some strength training and running before he went and that really served him well.
Katie has been super busy lately and her creative juices are flowing like a raging river. In the last 15 days, she wrote and recorded 10 songs. She even got her dad going on this songwriting and recording stuff. You can listen to her songs here.
Speaking of the hubby, he survived another round of budget cuts. 20% of the teachers in his district got "pink slips" and we sure thought he would be one of them. But, he managed to stay clear of it this time. That's twice this year that we've feared job loss and he is under contract and has tenure. Plus he was the district Teacher of the Year a couple of years ago. Nobody has job security. If he does lose his job, I guess we'll have to move in with my mother. I wonder if she realizes that she is our backup plan. Hey Mom, got room for a family of 6 and a dog? It's ok, Mom, you're safe for now.
Things are good for the girls with their jobs. They both got promoted. Katie went full time at David's Bridle and got a raise and Lexie is now the shift leader in the game room at Shakey's Pizza. No raise for her, but a little more responsibility and a leadership role. Can never go wrong being declared a leader! Well, ok, that might not be true, Custer didn't do so well as a leader...
Whats a good update without mentioning the dog? She's always got something exciting going on! Last week she chased a bunny rabbit! This week she found that one section of our wooden plank fence is falling apart. She's been nosing her way through the fence and getting out. Freeeeeeedom! Roaming the neighborhood unleashed and free spirited! Till the neighbors catch her and go around knocking on doors dragging her along saying "Is this your dog?". I drug a pallet over and leaned it on the fence over the loose section. That didn't work. I came home from running errands and saw my dumb dog (is she really?) a block away from our house! So, I pulled over and hit the remote sliding door - by the way, my van is so cool! - and she hopped in. Gave her a ride the rest of the way home. I moved our other pallet over to hide another section of fence.
Oh, and when I got home with the two littles, diaper bags, purse, groceries, and the dog... there was the letter carrier. I took the opportunity to talk to her about my annoying neighbor lady who wants our mailboxes moved a block away. And I told the carrier that I'm fine with my mail service just the way it is, I don't want it moved a block away because as you can see, my hands are full and if I have to go a block away to get my mail, I'll be inconvenienced. Why should I just because that one lady wants me to? The carrier said they are so tired of that lady at the post office, she comes in to complain all the time! They have a plan for her mail delivery that won't involve any of the rest of the people in our mailbox cluster. Yippee!
I have a lot of homework to do this weekend, the house is a mess because I've been doing homework instead of vacuuming and dishes and that sort of thing. Keith has to fix our fence! And the girls are probably working or doing who knows what. I think that's all the updating I have for now.
One more picture just for fun:
A Very Long Day - The Good, The Bad and The Cute
This is gonna be long cuz my day was as long as a busy week:
I got to sleep from midnight to 4am and then Libby decided it was playtime. She never does that! Anyway, got back to sleep at 6am to 7am, when really I should have gotten up at 6 so I wouldn't have to rush, but I went back to sleep when I had the chance.
Got up and showered and changed everyone and nursed and pumped, etc. Gracie was extra hungry this morning and ate 3 bowls of oatmeal! And I was really rushing her along, but that child does not have "hurry" in her vocabulary!
Finally got out the door at 8:45 with the two littles, their two diaper bags, my school bag, my purse and of course, my coffee!
I took Libby to her sitter first, then I took Gracie to her sitter and when I pulled up I just knew something was wrong. There were 3 vehicles out front, one was her husband's car and he should've been at work by now. I had a bad feeling. So I took Gracie to the door and the paternal grandparents and the girls all came to the door. The sitter's mother suddenly passed away yesterday, so things there were in the hands of the grandparents. Gracie likes them (they’ve met before) and they offered to keep her for the day even though they didn't know she was coming, but I felt like that might be asking a lot since they most likely just threw arrangements together within the past few hours... I don't know but I thought they had plenty to manage already. I got back in the van and called Libby's sitter and went right back there with Gracie.
It had been 15 mins since I dropped Libby off and returned with Gracie, in that time Libby was settled into the swing with her blanket all snuggled up around her and she was fast asleep. Awwww!
I got a tank of gas and cussed at the pump cuz gas keeps going up. grrrr. And I hopped on the freeway! It was 9:35, not bad considering my goal is to be on the freeway by 9:30. Just when I thought I could make up that 5 minutes in the fast lane, the whole freeway plugged up and became a mile long parking lot. I’m lucky it wasn’t further because those tend to become 5 mile jams in no time! I finally got past the source of the problem, a mangled up mess but no ambulance, so it must have been a non-injury accident. I like to tell myself that.
After I got past that, the road opened up and I flew to the college. I dropped it down to 80 in that spot where I always see a cop or two. I cranked up a Boston cd and drove fast in the far left lane. I never do that! Got to San Marcos in record time! Parked and hiked up the hill to class, got there on time!!! Wow! How’d I beat the clock!!! I did it!! I’m like Mario Andretti in a mini-van! It was now 10:30am. Long day already and I was just getting started.
You know how when you are hurrying and hurrying and then you get to your destination and you still feel like you should be going fast? I did that. I was all caffeinated and had been rushing around for over 2 hours trying to get to this class and I couldn’t shake that hurry feeling. I sat still and listened, tried to learn about Jacques Derrida and his literary theory of deconstructionism. When we broke into groups and analyzed a short story, I totally aced the little project and felt great being a valuable part of the group discussion. Not bad since I only read ¾ of the story that we needed to pick apart; I fell asleep before I got to the end last night.
After class, the student union had a table set up just outside our classroom and they were giving out pizza. Score! Free lunch and it was good too! I have an hour for lunch, and today I decided to use my hour hiking back to my van to swap out my books instead of carrying them all. The college campus is on the side of a hill, so when I say “hike” I really mean it! It’s a long walk on an incline, or decline, whichever way you are going.
During my walk, I met up with a nice gal that I’ve run into a couple of times before. It’s nice to meet good people. Today we exchanged phone numbers and she showed me a picture of her baby. She mentioned to me before that she has one baby the same age as Libby; today I learned that her baby is actually her third, but the first two did not survive. I spent the rest of my walking time counting my blessings.
I also found out that she just moved to America last June and she only knew three words in English before she arrived here. I would have never guessed that she wasn’t a native to Southern California. There are some amazing scholars on campus, very intelligent people; I hope some of it rubs off on me. I am in awe of some of the students I meet. Sure, I can fake it a time or two, but there are students on that campus who amaze me.
Then I went to my Psychology class. Today’s lecture was all biology though. And I was totally lost. Genes, DNA, chromosomes, Mitosis, Meiosis, huh? Yeah. Wish me luck!
Now, at 2:15 pm I scurried on home and kept the driving to a reasonable speed. Kept the volume down too. No need to be Mario Andretti all the time. I saw three cops in “the cop spot”. They were all writing tickets too! I wanted to stop and do some birthday shopping for my daughter’s birthday tomorrow (just call me the last minute mommy) but since I started the day in a size C cup and I was now busting out of a DD, I decided shopping could wait until tomorrow. My boobs haven’t figured out how to handle school days yet.
When I went to pick up the Littles at Libby’s sitter, she invited me in for coffee. A mutual friend of ours and her baby were over visiting too. So I sat and fed stubborn little Libby (who only drank one ounce from her bottle all day) and visited with the mamas. It was great to get some caffeine in me again. Got my second wind!
When I got home, I carried Libby, two diaper bags, my school bag, my purse, hats and blankets. Gracie carried a rawhide bone as big as she is for Sandy. The sitter gave it to us for our dog; it was gag gift for her Chihuahua and she wanted to just get rid of it. I have a really happy dog! So we get in the house, and get all this stuff out of my arms while Sandy is wagging her tail like mad carrying a bone as big as Texas in her jaw smacking into everyone, and what is that on the table? A package? For me?
One of my internet friends sent me a package! I opened it and it was CHOCOLATE! A Big bar of chocolate, homemade brownies (more like fudge, mmmmm), princess snack cups for Gracie and a teething toy for Libby. A sweet card topped it! Too sweet! Thank you so much, Jen!
I decided it could be fend for yourself night for dinner. Gracie fell asleep, Libby wanted to be held, Keith finished off the leftovers from last night and Katie and Lexie were both working. Pretty easy to blow off cooking tonight!
I did put Libby down for a bit. She was happy and enjoying her exersaucer. And then, she started to fuss. So of course I scooped her up to see what the fuss was about and in doing so, I discovered what the fuss was about. Ewww! Poopies everywhere! In the exersaucer seat, on her blanket that I stuff around her in the seat because she isn’t really big enough for it, on her jeans, her shirt, and filled her onsie. It was even in her sleeve! She saved it all up for mommy! Gee, thanks, Libbers. I’ve got a very poopy load of laundry going right now. I might have to wash it twice. Not sure how she can get so much of that nasty stuff out of her little bitty baby body all at once. Amazing!
Katie eventually came home from work, she was pale and sniffing and clutching a bottle of orange juice. She said “I hab a code.” Poor girl. She went to change and she said she’d come back for some chicken noodle soup, but she didn’t come back out of her room. I think she fell asleep.
Gracie fell asleep too. I guess throwing a wrench in her day was exhausting. Glad she took it all in stride. And Libby is asleep. Otherwise I’d never be able to type this extremely long post (wordcount: 1,611). Lexie isn’t home, she’s busy working her fingers to the bone trying to make ends meet and pay her bills (car insurance, texting, and lost library books).
It’s 8:30 and time for a beer. Ok, half. I am breastfeeding, I can’t overdo it. Today was one long long long day! Seems like this morning was a week ago!

Mommy is Back in School
Let the insanity begin! I started my very last semester this week. I have 15 weeks of classes, one week of final exams and then I am DONE! I decided to go ahead and participate in the whole cap and gown froohaha. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to, but I've had a lot of encouragement to walk with the graduates since I will be one of them.
The first week back was stressful and overwhelming.
I have three classes: History and Commentary of Literary Theory II, Sacred Texts, and Infant and Child Psychology. The two literature classes fill up the last two requirements of my literature degree and the psychology class completes an upper level general education requirement.
The Theory and Sacred Texts classes are both only offered once. So, I had to take them on the days and times offered, no choice. Theory is in the mornings and Sacred Texts is in the evening. Nothing like spreading them out!
To complete the general ed requirement, I could choose from a few classes. My choices were: Family & Marriage at 9am, Infant and Child Psychology at 1pm, or Youth & Society online. Online? Yeah! I want that one! But, it filled within the first hour of registration and I missed it.
I filled out a waitlist form back in November. No response. So, I filled out another one in December. No response. I emailed the instructor. No response. I emailed the secretary for the Sociology Department. No response. I emailed her again. She responded with "fill out a waitlist form and email the instructor". Rats! I did that already! I called. Nothing. I went to the Department offices, nobody there. I emailed the instructor again. Nothing. With all this unresponsiveness, I was starting to think I wouldn't be able to crash the online class.
I decided to try both the 9am and the 1pm classes and decide from there which one I would keep and which one I would drop.
My first day of class, I knew I had to get there early. Parking would be awful! It really was awful! I didn't get to the building until 9:40! Well, that decision was easy, I'll be dropping the 9am class. Traffic was a bear and parking was worse! With getting the kids to school and babysitters and fighting my way through the crawling parking lot they call "the freeway" I don't see me ever getting to a 9am class on time.
The 1pm psych class seems like it will be pretty easy. But I'd rather take the online class to minimize the time Libby has to be at a sitter. So, I went back to the Sociolgy Department and asked again. This trip wasn't wasted! The secretary emailed the instructor and next thing you know I got an email with permission to join the class! I had to register with a super secret permission number and I was in!
First thing I did was check out the syllabus. Whoa! What is this? There is a required Community Service Project? Spend 40 hours tutoring in and after school program in a school that is an hour away from my house? 4 hours a week for 10 weeks done in 2 hour increments? That is called Being There Twice a Week! What kind of online class require a commute and 40 hours of actual being there? What part of ONLINE did I not understand? Well, all that begging and hassle to get in and it was for nothing!
I think I'd be better off staying on campus and taking the Psychology class where I don't have to add two more commutes to my week. I'm disappointed that the online class was not really online. I think I'll drop it and email the instructor and the head of the Sociology Department explaining that the term "Online" was extremely misleading. Not that a big email whine-fest will help, but it'll make me feel better. I'm glad I didn't drop the psych class before I looked at the syllabus for the online class! Then I would be stuck!
Libby came with me to my classes this week. She didn't care much for Sacred Texts. She was right, it was really boring. My pen and paper attended that class while Libby and I hung out outside. She did well in the other classes though. She won't be able to attend class very often because she'd much rather be the center of attention rather than the quiet baby in the desk in the back.
I will take her to the Theory and Psych classes again this week but she's going to have to stay home for the evening class. That will be a 5 hour stretch of time without mommy. I'm nervous! Even though Daddy has never spent more than half an hour with her, he seems to think he can handle it. I don't think I'll attend for the entire class session. Maybe half. Or maybe I'll set up the webcam and watch from my laptop in class. Libby should be able to start going to the babysitter in February. I guess I'll skip a class every day to make her time with the sitter as minimal as possible. I'm not sure how this is going to work. If she would take a bottle I would feel better about leaving her.
By the way, in the next 15 weeks I will be reading 13 books. None of them will be light or entertaining. But, I'll be so much smarter in a few months!

Nesting or Going Crazy?
Not sure if I qualify as "Nesting" or "Going Crazy". Maybe a bit of both.
I've been washing everything in sight. I took apart all of my strollers and scrubbed them down. They really weren't very dirty either. Do you know how much work that is? There are screws and little gizmos to hook and fasten all over the place!
I also took apart three carseats and scrubbed down all the pieces and parts of those. And the baby swing. Bouncy seats are next.
I bought two double strollers. Couldn't decide between side by side or one behind the other for seating arrangement. Decided to get both! For you stroller enthusiasts.... I got a Peg Perego Aria Twin and a Graco Duo Glider. Both used, I didn't go all out. My fleet of strollers now needs its own garage stall.
I put two coats of primer on the nursery walls. Today, it's going pink! Pretty soon it will be a cute little girl room for the toddler and the baby (actually, the baby's stuff. Baby is sleeping with me!)
I started to clean the garage. Now that's a project that I'll never finish. So, I scrubbed the kitchen down instead. I sort of discovered my limits. I'm just too round to clean the garage.
All this.... and then I decided to go house hunting. Look for a new nest! I've been finding some interesting homes, and some good ones too. Definitely some homes worth considering! I have mostly been looking online, but I did tour three homes and got an agent to help me find something with all the essentials that are important to me.
All of this has just been in the last three days. I can't sleep. My list of things I really want to get done keeps growing in my head, so I have been waddling around doing as much as I can.
Well, I'm off to go throw in some baby laundry and paint that room!

Motorboat, Motorboat...
You know that little rhyme.. motorboat motorboat go so fast!!! Then you make silly noises really fast, ok, do that now shake your head around.... oh yeah.... that totally describes my week!!! It's really going fast. And it can only be described by making that motorboat noise! One day just quickly turns into another and all of a sudden a week has gone by. And then I think, but ... I didn't get anything done! I am afraid the whole summer will sneak by me like this.
I have a very long list of things to do this summer, if this pace keeps up I might not get much done. I did start on a research paper that is due in December. I want to have it done by August so that I don't have to worry about it at all after the baby arrives. So far, getting started on it doesn't mean a whole lot. I chose and author to research and write about, got his book sitting here (unopened as of yet), and did some googling on the guy. That counts as getting started, right?
Saturday I have to go take a big long test as prep for grad school. I'll be taking the CBest. It's a 4 hr long basic skills exam that teachers are required to pass before entering the credential program. Reading, Writing and Math. I'm not too worried about it, but ugh, a 4 hr long test! I'll sure be glad to have it behind me. Then I'll need to sign up and take the CSet. That one I hear is a mother bear. I've also ordered all my books for the fall. Got 3 out of the 4 I ordered; I need 8 books for this one class I will be taking and I want to read all of them before the class begins. I've read 4 already, not recently, but all within 2008 which is good enough for this dusty old brain.
The princesses are all keeping me busy. They are busy! Oldest is working a lot, and she has been playing some coffee shop gigs on the weekends. She finished her second semester of college and will be teaching private swim lessons this summer along with working as a bridal consultant at the dress shop. Her life is so fun! Middle princess is finishing her junior year of high school this week. She's been goofing off pretty bad lately, so I sure hope she does well on her final exams so that she will get passing grades. I really don't want to send her to summer school. Gah! She's smart, just has already shut down her brain for summer. She just turned 17 and still hasn't decided how to spend her birthday money. She got a lot of cash, yet, it's just not quite enough. Oh, to be a teenager! I got to take some time out and have a "date" with my teen girls. We all went and got pedicures together. I tell ya, that was so nice! And we all have really pretty toes!
Little princess never stops. She's always going going going. She's two!!! She's doing well without nursing, although she still asks. Lately she's having a language explosion. I've been waiting for this! So exciting! Just when I started calling around looking for a speech assessment for her, she starts talking up a storm. She must have figured out Mama means business. She's also discovered that getting ready for the day with Daddy is pretty fun stuff. He lets her wear his man-stinky deodorant. Great, now she smells like a man all day. She's also decided that she doesn't care to be "stuck" in her carseat any more. So, I have to wrestle her in, pin her down while buckling this kicking screaming toddler, and then get where I'm going listening to her cries and pleas for freedom. Sure adds to the excitement of an average day!
Baby princess is being a brat. In fact, I think that might be a good name for her. She is sideways now; I'm not so sure that is an improvement over being breech. Her head is on my left, her butt on the right, back up and all arms and legs kicking straight downward. Lemme just say..... uncomfortable! She also likes to arch and push off, like she's trying to get more personal space in there. Well, it sure is nice to know she's like me in wanting some personal space... but, honey, its just a dream for you at this point! Baby brat is also giving me hell with my sugar levels. I have to go in for a Gestational Diabetes test (standard test these days) and so I was checking my sugar levels with my diabetes finger stabbing blood checker thing, and my sugar numbers are way outa wack!!! I'm afraid I'm gonna fail that GD test for sure! I've gone on the diabetes diet and will be stabbing my finger 4x a day hoping for good numbers, but I fear that I am doomed to eat healthy for the rest of this pregnancy. I hope to at least get it under control in a few days and then I'll go fail my test next week. Ugh.
Between the 4 princesses, my overworked sleep deprived husband (who lost his keys and had a temper tantrum over it - similar to Princess Gracie's many daily tantrums), trying to get ahead with school while keeping up with the house and home..... all I can think of to say is that Motorboat noise while shaking my head! Spaz!!!

Just Call me Pregzilla!
I am Pregzilla! Don't get on my bad side. My hormones are chanting, trying to get me to do bad things. "Throw it, throw it, throw it!" and "Punch her, punch her, punch her!" and worse... "kill, kill, kill!". Yes, I know, that is just wrong and asking for a prison sentence. How would my family survive if I went to prison for some R&R? They can't put new toilet paper on the roll. I better behave and stay home where I am needed. I'm the only one who knows where we keep the spaghettios.
I got the worst haircut on the face of the earth on Wednesday. When I left the salon, Frictastic Sams, my hair was wet and the stylist "scrunched"it to make it cute. Little did I realize she was hiding her bad work.
I know, it was my mistake to go to one of those quick and cheap places. Lexie calls them the fast food of hair salons. She's right.
So, my horrible haircut dried and the "scrunching" lost its effect after a few hours. It does take my hair a few hours to dry on its own because my hair is really really thick. Really thick! The more it dried the worse it got. It looked like this:
So, I screamed and ranted and raved and threw fits. That didn't help at all. Still looked horrible. So, I cried. Again, that had no effect.
My daughter used her flatiron on it to straighten it and take out the "Poof". Now it was worse! And I looked like this: (Not that there's anything wrong with that - typed with a Jerry Seinfeld voice)

My daughter said, "Oh, mom. I don't want to tell you this, but... it's bad. It's really bad." It was uneven, choppy, chunky, and just hacked up in the worst way. I told the stylist that I didn't want any layers above my jawline. Um.... there are chunks cut above the tops of my ears! So I cried around for another day, wondering how on earth I was ever going to go out in public again.
My husband was scared to pieces to say anything. So, he pretended not to notice. I got 6 inches cut off and was now sporting the Emo look. How can he not notice? So, I mopped my floor. Didn't help my hair at all! But, the floor looks nice.
Today I woke up wishing I was a man so I could shave my head and still be cool. Since I was still having serious pregzilla feelings about my hair, I decided to go back to Fricktastic Sams and just let them know how upset I am and that I was well.... upset! Not that that'll fix anything either, but at least they should know. Not that they'd care.
So I did. First time in my life I have ever gone back to a hair salon with a complaint. I took the stylist's card, my receipt and just to top it off, I took the products that I bought for my daughters back too. I'll spend my money elsewhere. So, I took Princess Gracie and off we went.
Pregzilla enters the salon. I went in and the lady said "Can I help you?" And I said, "No, not really" So I told her that I was in the other day and got the worst haircut I've ever had in my life. I'm upset and I want to bring back the products that I bought and never opened because I'm way too mad at them to use their products too. She says "Just a minute". Another stylist comes over. I re-explain. Pregzilla hormones begin chanting. The stylist, er, she-devil who did my hair wasn't there. I begin to cry. Again! Geez. I am sick to death of crying my eyes out uncontrollably!
The stylists agree, it's bad. Very bad. One of them calls the manager and says please come in. The manager shows up, she was at home enjoying her morning off. Me, Pregzilla, ruins her day too. I'm on a roll. She says "oh, this is bad." The manager talks me back into the salon chair promising to smooth out the layers and even it up. She says it won't be fixed, but it'll be even and not as choppy. Ok. So she does her magic while I sit there really tense and nervous. I keep telling her DONT make it worse!
I sat in the chair and got the bib wrapped around me. With the stylists behind me, I could see their expressions when they got a really good look at my hair. They had only seen it from behind the counter. Now that they were getting an up close good look at it, their faces said it all. They looked at each other with that "Oh.My.Gawd!" look. I feel my hormones rage.
The manager had told one of the stylists to call the owner. He comes in. Fresh from his day off too. Pregzilla strikes another one down. He comes and says "Wow. Where did you get this cut? It really is as horrible as they told me it was". Pregzilla wants to kill.
HERE!!!
He wasn't pleased to hear that! The three stylists work on my hair for 2 hours. They blend and trim and style. It finally looks like I won't scare people if I go out in public. They really did a fantastic job of salvaging something out of that nightmare. They gave me products to use. They said I could come in for 5 free haircuts from the manager until my hair looked normal again. She said it'll take several months, but they'll keep it looking tame. I also got a full refund on the products I bought, my haircut and Princess Katie's haircut too. She was with me when I got the hack job.
So, they made up for what the one stylist did. And I'm wondering if the stylist who cut my hair into an Emo mess will still have a job by the end of the day. I saw the expressions on the faces of the stylists today and the owner. They were being kind when they said it was really bad. They said I wasn't over reacting.
I am Pregzilla. Hear me ROAR!!! And don't come near me with scissors!!!

March Mom Madness - When will it end!!!
I'm ready for March to be done already. You should see my calendar. It's full. Too full.
This week was nuts. The kids are feeling better though, so that is nice. I'm so glad!!!! There is nothing worse than when your kids are sick and you can't do a darn thing about it. Even though my girls are older, it still breaks my heart when they are sick.
I just have one more week of college insanity to muck my way through and then it'll be my spring break. Which is another way of saying "catch-up time". This week I have another exam and a big paper to write. Luckily, I have a couple of days.
Only two more months of college. It's gonna be crazy but I might make it.

March Madness - Mom style
I can't wait till March is over. It's nuts!!! I have midterms and research papers and tons of studying to do. No time for anything else at all! I should pack my bags and move into the university library for a few weeks.
My oldest princess needs to finalize her summer job prospects before she drives me insane. She thinks she'll just get hired by showing up at her convenience. It's March! So I have been very busy nagging and nagging. She has her college mid-terms too. Wish she'd study! She's making me a nervous wreck.
Middle princess gets her tonsils out in a little over a week. I'm both excited and nervous. And the aftermath won't be fun for her which means it'll be hell for the rest of us. But then she'll be healthier and we can look forward to a better school year next year. She just signed up for next year's classes. She'll be a senior!!! I'm not sure how she suddenly got to be this far along in school. I swear, she was in middle school not that long ago.
Baby princess has a birthday at the end of this week. She will be 2 yrs old. I threatened to post-pone her birthday until she seems more ready to be 2, but it's coming anyway. I'm taking her to Seaworld for her day in lieu of a party. We will have a family dinner followed by pie. Gracie gets pie on her birthday because she was born on pi day.
My neighbors are organizing a block rummage sale. So whatever Saturday they choose, and they want to do this in March... I'll drag my crap out to the driveway and partake in the neighborhood garage gutting festivities.
Easter is in March too. Yeah, cuz March isn't busy enough! I invited my brother here for Easter but if he thinks I'm cleaning my house for his visit, he's mistaken. I have too much to do to take time to clean house for my brother. I haven't seen him in years, so I might run the vacuum... or I might not.
Never a dull moment around here!!!
